Alternative Cones of Shame
After surgery or if your dog is licking excessively vets will often send your golden home with a cone to prevent them from being able to chew at sutures or a hot spot, etc. Cones typically cost about $20. It’s a good idea to keep a cone on hand as you never know when you might need one.
The rescue has some of the “donut” shaped cones that are available to foster families which work pretty well and are pretty easy for the dog to sleep in and get around the house without bumping into things. Here are some other options to try.

Send Healing Hugs
Ramona (above) and Roxy (below) are both at VCA St Mary’s being spay today. Both are ready for adoption this week.

Ramona is petite, quiet, great with cats and wants nothing more than to be with her humans.
Roxy is a big girl, outgoing, confident….not so good with cats, and also loves her people.
Warm wishes for a speedy recovery and a new furever family in your near future.

Justice for Comet the Golden
DogLawComplaint.aspx?navid=26&parentnavid=0You may remember seeing the story about Comet being hit by a car and left to suffer by the shelter for 9 days with a broken back. Friends of Golden retrievers has posted a link that we can use to write to the Dept. Of Agrculture in Pa. to make a complaint about this shelter. Please take a minute and voice your concern about this and maybe make sure this does not a happen to another dog. The date was April 21st and the name of the shelter was Fayette SPCA.

Weight Loss Tip # 7
Feed your dog three or four mini meals instead of two larger meals. (Big dogs should be fed twice per day.) Measure the amount of food you should feed for a 24 hour period and feed more often.
This is especially effective if you are a snacker like me. Every time my pups hear me in the kitchen, which is a lot, they come running to see what I might share with them.
And I often share with them, so I need to factor my shared snacks into their overall calorie intake for the day or just feed them lunch when I eat lunch and a snack in the afternoon when I’m chowing down. (They go to sleep early, so don’t hear my evening noshing usually.)
