If you are like me it’s too hot to be outside for more than short amount of times. But rather than watching movies or cleaning:( Spend some time making crafts for the rescue’s two craft shows that bring in close to $2000 for the rescue. Barb Saylor coordinates the Hollywood and NAS PAX RIVER craft shows usually held in December. If you have questions about what to make give her a call at 301.994.2474.
Items that sell well include holiday bandanas, ornaments, dog scarves, Glenda’s pillows, sports team collars and her famous paw stockings. We’re always looking for new ideas. Items should be home made.

Meet Riley who is guessed at about a year old. He was dumped behind a shed at Death Row Doggies in TN about 8 months ago where he has spent his life in a 10 by 10 pen with other dogs. Good news is he is great with other dogs. Unsettling news is that he has had very few experiences.
After he arrive yesterday I took him off leash and he ran panicked around our fenced yard for 2.5 hours while Joe and I tried to get him. I learned this a.m. that he had never been allowed to run free before. Broke my heart that a young boy who needs to run and play has never been allowed.
More good news. He LIKES the house and unlike some dogs who have never lived in a house and are afraid to come in, Riley walks right in.
In fact, look at him here on the sofa.
He’s a submissive urinator which means he pees when frightened which is very common and he will stop once he gains confidence. (Thank goodness my sofa has washable covers!)
While Riley is physically ready for adoption as he is neutered, current on vaccinations and is healthy; he may need a few weeks before he is emotionally confident enough for adoption. Susan was going to foster him, but we have offered to keep him since he’s such a timid boy and seems to have taken to Joe.

Well our little diva has arrived. She handled the trip from TN confined to a crate (which she hates) like a trooper. Hopped out; said hello to the people and dogs who were there to greet her and trotted over to the wading pool; jumped in, got a drink and laid down….She was too hot.
After going pee outside, we let her in the house where she pooped right on the living room floor. Oh, well. Big day for her.
She ate dinner, explored and then Gail, her new foster mom came to pick her up. Gail’s first reaction, “She’s so little and cute!.” Gail reports that Betty Davis slept through the night and is doing fine. She has a vet appt on Thursday and is available for adoption as soon as she is spay.
