Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge

Inspired by a Norse legend

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Legend of the Rainbow Bridge

If you’re feeling down … close your eyes, point your nose to the sun, inhale and let the positive energy recharge you

From Jan As many of you know we lost our Jake early Sept. And sadly I am posting that our Ross Boy left this world today..truly mourning the loss of his best friend Jake. Our boys lived together for 9+ years, and they were bonded together by the love of leaving dog hair on my […]

She created a legacy for all our current and future dogs

his zest for life, (and tennis balls) was unmatched.

She was 16 and had lived a happy, healthy life

He made us laugh every day.

It’s going to be a difficult week. Had to say goodbye to our dear, beautiful, playful, loving Cooper today.

Your spirit will live forever in our home.

Sometimes rescue’s don’t do what is smart. Instead, they do what is right, and kind, and good. Senior boy Max’s equally senior owner could no longer care for him and took him to the shelter. When Golden Retriever Rescue of Southern Maryland was contacted, we could have done the “smart” thing and let the staff […]

Fin was a sweet loving guy and liked to be cuddled. He was happy here and inclined to abscond with food to the end.

We loved this little boy so much

We said a sad good bye to sweet Charlotte today.

we did our very best to make those years happy for her.

Thank God for GRRSM giving us one of the most precious gifts

She has given our family so much love and we will miss her like crazy until we see her again someday.

I am VERY grateful for the
extra months we got to have with our incredible Cody bear.

BaTuke’ (Tuke) was a great and loving boy taken way to early. He loved to play and twirl around, he would even snap his toys like hiking a football. At first he was a handful, didn’t listen very well, but then we found out that his original patents were Brazilian. He just didn’t understand English😊. […]

I will miss our nightly talks about the day

He was always the most well behaved dog in the neighborhood and always had a smile on his face and a wag in his tail.

She was our everything and filled our hearts with so much much love, our lives with joy and purpose. We’ll forever miss her until we’re reunited again.

He was my “Golden Gentleman”.

They brought joy and happiness to our family! They will be terribly missed!

We were so fortunate to have 3 great years with him.

More like a gentle Teddy Bear it was like he had always been with us…

We are so glad he did not suffer from cancer or another horrible disease and was happy and healthy right up until he was not. He was an easy boy who was so loved by us. We will miss you Harry.

He was a great well behaved and my favorite

Our Sydney passed over the Rainbow Bridge. She lived with us for almost 4 years. Norm drove to Tennessee to pick her up. He was concerned for her comfort traveling in a crate with the very large abscess growth on her tail. Unfortunately her tail had to be amputated. Sydney was another foster failure. Sydney […]

We will miss him greatly and remember him always

I know how happy mom must be to have her princess back by her side.

Angel always lived up to her name.

Saying “goodbye” never gets easier. Joe and I helped Stanley, our foster boy who we adopted yesterday, cross Rainbow Bridge today.

He was such a huge & important part of our family.

always a lady….

“She turned into a great dog.”

Alex in our home for only two days and just diagnosed with heartworms and intestinal parasites we knew we wanted to be his forever family. A

Daisy crossed Rainbow Bridge a couple of weeks after her family learned she suffered kidney damage due to Lyme disease. Barb Saylor and I were at PETCO in St Mary’s volunteering with another rescue. A woman was walking around the store asking if anyone would take her puppy. They pup named “Daisy” had severe ear […]

She passed away knowing everyone around her loved her very much.

Smart, stable, a perfect Golden. We loved her and will miss her.

“Woody was not our whole life, buy he made our lives whole.”

Please send virtual hugs to Barb and Jeff Saylor who helped their boy Bailey cross the bridge today. Bailey had come back to rescue when his adoptive owners could not afford two expensive surgeries he needed. Becky Minnich fostered him and nursed him back to health…..so we thought. Barb and Jeff adopted both Bailey and […]

Let Totta’s lesson to all of us be not to wait

I will miss her for the rest of my life.

 1. There’s nothing that could have been done differently A Soul’s path is planned before they are born onto this Earth. This plan includes all possible exits from this world. And when the Soul leaves this Earth, know that this exit was part of their Soul’s plan and a specific choice made by their soul. […]

I always called Riley my last puppy, as I am fully committed to rescue dogs at this point.

He died peacefully on the porch rug.

Doc loved people, playing fetch & catch, riding shotgun in the truck with the window down, lining up his tennis balls and large stuffed animals for quick retrieval, and of course eating. If you were close enough to him he always took the opportunity to give you a big ole wet kiss. Millie honored him […]

What a joyous, fabulous pup, so full of life. To prove that, only an hour before he died, he chased the horses when they came up for dinner, had his favorite 32 seconds of the day (as I always call “dinner” here for the dogs as they race through their food),then promptly died.

We were blessed to be his family.

We lost our Ranger tonight. It was sudden. Cancer. We are heartbroken.”

He was my best friend and faithful companion.  Couldn’t ask for a better dog who seemed almost human at times with his empathy for his master.

they are over the rainbow together.

She has left a special place in our hearts and minds and we will miss her dearly

Pam Lowery has had a really sad afternoon. Not one, but two, of her pups crossed Rainbow Bridge this afternoon – her foster dog Cinder, and her foster, then furever girl, Bertie. This was always my favorite photo of beautiful Bertie. She came to rescue about two years ago and Pam agreed to foster her. […]

Cinder crossed Rainbow Bridge this afternoon in the loving arms of his foster mom, Pam Lowery. Pam had fostered Cinder for about a year. He came to us from Pulaski County Animal Shelter where this senior citizen had been picked up as a stray. Other rescues refused to take him as he was not “adoptable,” […]

Rest in peace our beautiful Shelby Girl. You filled our hearts with joy when we needed it most. You were Jake’s first best friend. Champion ball and Frisbee chaser, mole catcher and protector of our yard from bunnies, squirrels and possums. You made us feel like rock stars everyday. Thank you for loving us, we […]

We helped our Anna Banana cross Rainbow Bridge this morning. As you all  know she had been diagnosed with cancer, but had been doing surprising well. Susan Riege & Charles Strup’s pup Pepper, who was adopted last year, crossed the Rainbow Bridge this week due to cancer. She was fostered by Kim and Titus Adams. I will always remember her by as beautiful  “Miss December” in the rescue’s 2015 calendar.

From Carolyn and John Sweeney: Have sad news this morning. Kody crossed the Rainbow Bridge this morning at 8:30. His Kidneys had shut down and the ultrasound found bleeding in his belly so we let him go to be with Cheyenne. Thanks for giving us two of the best buddies in the world. This photo […]

Sandy was helped across the Rainbow Bridge this morning with his foster mom and dad at his side. Sandy came to rescue at 10.5 years old after both of his owners passed away. A big boy at 128 lbs when he arrived, we quickly realized he had mobility issues and learned he needed ACL surgery […]

At 12:15 this morning, with Eva by his side, Herc’s battle with lymphoma ended and he crossed over the rainbow bridge. He put up a good fight, and left this world with dignity and grace. We are so thankful that he passed in his home, and that he chose the time, not us. Thank you […]

Today we helped our sweet Morgan peacefully cross over the Rainbow Bridge.  Morgan loved Golden Days at the dog park, being a social butterfly meeting lots of Golden lovers and all newly arriving dogs.  As she aged, she would find a grassy spot to rest, almost falling asleep.  Morgan was a gentle soul, always wanting to keep […]

It breaks my heart to leave them behind, I snap a photo instead. I capture their soul with every click, and pray they don’t end up dead. The photograph is their last testament. It’s the one proof they walked this Earth. Their image burnt into my mind, I remember their eyes, I see their worth. […]

Saying goodbye is hard to do… RIP Daisy. You were such a gift to our family. xoxo Hugs to the Campbell family who adopted Daisy in 2008. You may recognize this world traveler as she is the cover girl of the 2013 Golden Rescue calendar.
