The Rainbow Bridge
Inspired by a Norse legend
By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.
For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.
No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

I will miss our nightly talks about the day
He was always the most well behaved dog in the neighborhood and always had a smile on his face and a wag in his tail.
She was our everything and filled our hearts with so much much love, our lives with joy and purpose. We’ll forever miss her until we’re reunited again.
He was my “Golden Gentleman”.
They brought joy and happiness to our family! They will be terribly missed!
We were so fortunate to have 3 great years with him.
More like a gentle Teddy Bear it was like he had always been with us…
We are so glad he did not suffer from cancer or another horrible disease and was happy and healthy right up until he was not. He was an easy boy who was so loved by us. We will miss you Harry.
He was a great well behaved and my favorite
Our Sydney passed over the Rainbow Bridge. She lived with us for almost 4 years. Norm drove to Tennessee to pick her up. He was concerned for her comfort traveling in a crate with the very large abscess growth on her tail. Unfortunately her tail had to be amputated. Sydney was another foster failure. Sydney […]
We will miss him greatly and remember him always
I know how happy mom must be to have her princess back by her side.
Angel always lived up to her name.
Saying “goodbye” never gets easier. Joe and I helped Stanley, our foster boy who we adopted yesterday, cross Rainbow Bridge today.

I will miss her for the rest of my life.
1. There’s nothing that could have been done differently A Soul’s path is planned before they are born onto this Earth. This plan includes all possible exits from this world. And when the Soul leaves this Earth, know that this exit was part of their Soul’s plan and a specific choice made by their soul. […]
I always called Riley my last puppy, as I am fully committed to rescue dogs at this point.
He died peacefully on the porch rug.
Doc loved people, playing fetch & catch, riding shotgun in the truck with the window down, lining up his tennis balls and large stuffed animals for quick retrieval, and of course eating. If you were close enough to him he always took the opportunity to give you a big ole wet kiss. Millie honored him […]
What a joyous, fabulous pup, so full of life. To prove that, only an hour before he died, he chased the horses when they came up for dinner, had his favorite 32 seconds of the day (as I always call “dinner” here for the dogs as they race through their food),then promptly died.
We were blessed to be his family.
We lost our Ranger tonight. It was sudden. Cancer. We are heartbroken.”
He was my best friend and faithful companion. Couldn’t ask for a better dog who seemed almost human at times with his empathy for his master.
they are over the rainbow together.
She has left a special place in our hearts and minds and we will miss her dearly

Pam Lowery has had a really sad afternoon. Not one, but two, of her pups crossed Rainbow Bridge this afternoon – her foster dog Cinder, and her foster, then furever girl, Bertie. This was always my favorite photo of beautiful Bertie. She came to rescue about two years ago and Pam agreed to foster her. […]
Cinder crossed Rainbow Bridge this afternoon in the loving arms of his foster mom, Pam Lowery. Pam had fostered Cinder for about a year. He came to us from Pulaski County Animal Shelter where this senior citizen had been picked up as a stray. Other rescues refused to take him as he was not “adoptable,” […]

From Carolyn and John Sweeney: Have sad news this morning. Kody crossed the Rainbow Bridge this morning at 8:30. His Kidneys had shut down and the ultrasound found bleeding in his belly so we let him go to be with Cheyenne. Thanks for giving us two of the best buddies in the world. This photo […]

Today we helped our sweet Morgan peacefully cross over the Rainbow Bridge. Morgan loved Golden Days at the dog park, being a social butterfly meeting lots of Golden lovers and all newly arriving dogs. As she aged, she would find a grassy spot to rest, almost falling asleep. Morgan was a gentle soul, always wanting to keep […]
It breaks my heart to leave them behind, I snap a photo instead. I capture their soul with every click, and pray they don’t end up dead. The photograph is their last testament. It’s the one proof they walked this Earth. Their image burnt into my mind, I remember their eyes, I see their worth. […]
Saying goodbye is hard to do… RIP Daisy. You were such a gift to our family. xoxo Hugs to the Campbell family who adopted Daisy in 2008. You may recognize this world traveler as she is the cover girl of the 2013 Golden Rescue calendar.
“My heart is breaking. After 13 and a half years, we had to put Dakota, my first baby, to sleep tonight. She was the kindest, gentlest, most eager to please dog, and she is already dearly missed and will forever be loved. Both my furry angels decided the first Wednesday in October was their day […]

It’s with profound sadness that I inform you of the passing of Princess, who came to us through GRRSM through the efforts of Al Huey. Princess was one of the dogs rescued from Zuni, but she quickly mastered the task of moving from life in a squalid cage to a place where she had 400 […]
It was with a heavy heart that we said goodbye to my heart girl, Catie Lynn on May 10th, 2012. She was my first Golden and she was also the best. Over the 11 ½ years that we were together, she brought joy to many, whether it was jumping in the pile of leaves daddy […]
Words cannot express the deep loss we feel for our Allie. She was a devoted and loving companion for 13 years. Even through she struggled most of her life with health problems, and was totally blind the last year of her life, she was always happy and excited to be alive. Life was wonderful to […]
It is with huge tears that I write about my best-friend Vinny. While only with me for 1 1/2 years, he became the joy of the household. My lawn looks like a minefield, and I never minded his love for digging holes and laying in them. He found his most joy, laying in the yard, […]
This was Major’s brother Sam. He was 10 and a half years old when we had to put him to sleep this past Saturday. We rescued Sam from a family who had him locked in their garage and the husband was mistreating Sam. He was a very loving, obeident friend. Loved his toys and having […]
Binks crossed the rainbow bridge this week. This poor guy was a victim on severe neglect. His owner was charged with animal cruelty and we were asked to take him into rescue by another rescue group. My wonderful friend Bonnie crossed the rainbow bridge. The Neals had adopted her from a shelter more than 15 years ago so not sure how old she was. I brought her with me to some of the golden get togethers. She was with me thru so many tears and smiles. I loved that little dog […]
Well, Spunky made the decision himself last night. He crossed the rainbow bridge peacefully, at home, at about 11:30. We sure will miss the ‘big bear’. He had a way of using those sad old eyes to work his way into your heart.
I just got back from taking him to the vet. Even though we never officially adopted Spunky, we loved him as much as any of our own. I asked them to cremate him and return his ashes to me. – Betty
Cap was the first foster dog we adopted. Joe says he knew we would keep the day we picked him up. Cap hated having his nails trimmed and would make the ugliest face and pretend he was going to bite you. Cap and Steve were best buds and died five weeks apart.
Our first golden. I was afraid of dogs before Steve. Joe convinced me to visit a litter of golden puppies and the rest is history. Steve changed our life for the better. All of his life his favorite toy was these squeakey smiley face balls we eventually had to order from England!
Chance was the first dog we adopted from GRRSM. We adopted Chance in 2007. Although he was with us for only a short time he mastered living inside, basic & advance obedience, and received his Canine Good Citizen Certificate.
When my nephew quit college and joined the Army in 1994 he brought Abby to us since we were a GRREAT Foster Home at the time. We decided to keep her for ourselves. She loved to run on the beach chasing the seagulls and pelicans.
Sammy was our first Golden and my best bud. We adopted him from the Howard County Animal Shelter in 1989.
Jasmine came to the rescue after being taken in by animal control as a stray. She was a spunky girl who endured knee surgery, cardiologist visits and multiple other tests only to learn she had liver cancer. One of her favorite games combined her love of water with her love of tennis balls; we’d toss 20 or so tennis balls into the wading pool and Jazz would systematically remove each of them – an easy game for her on the days her legs were achy.
