Congratulations to Lauryn and Doug
Lauryn went to her new family yesterday after several months with Pam L, who nursed Lauryn back to health after heartworm treatment. Lauryn doesn’t like to have her head touched by strangers (remember this all of us who pat dog heads) and would (and occaisionlly still does, air bite and growl when someone tries to touch her head). Pam worked with Julie of Training by Julie to desensitize Lauryn’s reactions. Good job Pam!
Doug went to his new family this past Saturday when his adoption was finalized at the dog park in Charles County. Doug was fostered by Adam and Mariel, who already have their next foster, Cappy, lined up as he arrives in October.
Best wishes for a long and happy life to all our rescue pups, and to the families who adopt and love them and to their foster families who give them a chance at a long and happy life.

Havingmet Doug I know what a happy fellow he is. His new family is very lucky to have found such a great dog. I bet it was difficult for Adam and Mariel to give him up.
We are so excited and happy for Lil Lauryn! Yah!!
Doug is doing well with us so far.
He chases the cat and barks at her, but we’re trying to gently redirect him to other pursuits. And he chewed up my slippers, so I have put all shoes away. He also ate two sandwiches off the table that my dad had made for lunch, that is something we have to correct him on, but since dad didn’t see him do it, there was nothing he could do.
But Doug is friendly and gets along well with Eli. He is afraid of the basement stairs, but has no problem with the outside deck stairs leading to the back yard.
He loves chasing the ball, but he doesn’t quite have the concept down yet that if he returns it, he can chase it again. But that is coming. All in all he is a handful, but I am confident we’ll be able to help him overcome his issues.
Cookie (formerly known as Lauryn) is doing pretty well thus far with us. She had two pee incidents inside my apartment but that was to be expected in a new place. Since then, there has been no big problems doing that business outside.
She actually doesn’t mind us touching her head or neck area too much so it seems like Pam did a great job getting her used to it…she’s still not a big fan of staying in a crate though…
We are working with her to reduce the leash tugging and making some progress already!
All in all, she seems happy at our place and has found almost every random wall, under desk, corner, etc. in the house to nap in. Much to our surprise, she does not beg or whine about getting human food when we are eating, and she tries for a second and then lays down and relaxes!

Thanks for letting us know how she is doing Sapan. Maybe an obdience course with her would help with the pulling if she doesn’t stop. My Honey has been through 3 courses but she still pulls. She just wants to be out front no matter what. The Gentle Leader works for her but I have trouble getting it on her. A harness works pretty well also. Good luck. Glad she is doing so well.
