It’s with profound sadness that I inform you of the passing of Princess, who came to us through GRRSM through the efforts of Al Huey. Princess was one of the dogs rescued from Zuni, but she quickly mastered the task of moving from life in a squalid cage to a place where she had 400 acres to roam, groundhogs and rabbits to chase, cats who worshiped her, and a pair of humans who gave her their hearts. The farm is quiet tonight, dealing with the absence of the grace she gave to it and the joy of her dance when the words, “You want to go for a walk?” were spoken.

We don’t have Gas – Ex or any product with simethicone and we need some…..for the dogs. (Since Gas X and Mylanta have been recently recalled, we’ll probably need to look for Mylanta Gas.) It should be in our first aid kit as giving your dog a product with simethicone can buy you some time while you get to the emergency vet if you think your dog is bloating…..the stomach twists, food cannot digest and your dog can die….quickly.

We have rescue members who have lost their dog due to bloat. Here is an easy to read article describing bloat, ways to prevent it and additional resources to learn more.

They recommend simple things like not feeding your dog from a raised feeder which many people do; not letting your dog play hard right after a meal, etc.
