Clare Update

Clare clearly belonged to somone at some point as she knows some basic commands. She found herself at the shelter as a stray with a pretty severe skin infection that has been treated. The vet believes she is allergic to fleas so needs to be on flea prevention year round. Vet guesses her to be about 6 years old.

Clare’s foster mom says, “Clare has spent the past with me and from day one she was right at home. How do I know? Because she had a chance to get away after I left her in what was a secure setting and when I returned there she was, greeting me in the driveway, tail wagging. And that was only 24 hours after she got here! That being said, if her home is near a road or highway she would require a physical fence for her protection.

To say she’s a “love bug” is an understatement, although she will give you your space and just lay quietly out of the way. But if your eyes meet she’s right there wagging her tail and looking at your eyes telling you how happy she is to be with you.

Sometimes she’s so quiet with her chin on the floor thinking — maybe of her previuos family, as she knows “paw”, come” “sit” and walks on lead well. When you talk to her she often becomes submissive and lies on her back with her paws in the air. She can become upset with “some” dogs upon meeting them suddenly when there is a lot of excitement going on. However, after a cooling off period (varies from a few hours to a day), she accepts their company. Clare loves children and people and would thrive in a home with kid(s)and another dog who could also be her buddy. Would not want to see her in a home where no one is home during the day.

She eats a well rounded diet and likes to walk. Doesn’t much care to swim. She’s patient; not an early riser unless you are! In all, a pretty perfect dog.
>Medically she has had non-cancerous growths removed and should not return. Itchy skin seems to be her only malady.

Although a golden mix, she must be more of a golden as she is truly a velcro dog and one who you just can’t resist loving.”

Vanilla chips and carob balls….had to be a couple of THOUSAND calories!!!!

Shampoo that Prevents Hot Spots?

Al Huey sings the praises of Bio Med’s Coal Tar and Sulfur Shampoo. He says that once he started using it his dogs didn’t have hot spots any more. Since I’m vigorously trying to avoid a trip to the doggie dermatologist in Baltimore, I’ll try anything.

My first attempt at buying the shampoo I got the wrong product….the coal tar only version of the shampoo. Fortunately I only bought a small bottle. I borrowed Al’s gallon jug of the coal tar and SULFUR Shampoo today and ordered a jug on line. Makes sense that a product containing sulfer would help as that is what people use for skin issues. It’s also what is used in homeopathic treatments for skin problems.

Everyone is bathed at my house. They smell a little funky. It must have been soothing as they seemed to enjoy having it on their skin.

Let’s see if it helps as I’ll soon have my own mega bottle of the stuff!
