Bear Crosses Rainbow Bridge

Bear died on Superbowl Sunday, at home with his foster mom and dad, Jean and Al, and their golden Millie. They report he passed peacefully at home and did not appear to suffer. Bear was diagnosed with cancer after being given up by his owner who had serverely neglected him. While the vet game him only 2 – 3 months to live early last fall, he surprised most by being his happy-go-lucky self and not acting sick at all until this past weekend when he would no longer eat or drink. For a dog that had turned 10 while in rescue he apparently did not suffer from achey joints, but his cancer caused incredible itchiness which we did everything we could think of to alleviate. He went to the dog park most days of the week where he managed to get every human there to pet him. He enjoyed wandering off lead at the marina and chomping on rawhides or raw bones while his foster dad had his evening cigar.
We are all so very thankful to Al and Jean for loving and caring for him. He was a great dog and will be missed.

We will miss Bear dearly. What a very special dog who touched everyone who knew him.
My thoughts go out to Al and Jean who took Bear in and treated him like he was their own. You both worked so hard to give him a happy life while he was with you. He had such a gentle way about him which was amazing considering what he had been through. The dog park will not be the same without him.
He had the best mommy and daddy taking care of him, and he will be sorely missed. That boy captured my heart immediately, I am so grateful for the priviledge of being able to spend some time with him. My heart is with Jean and Al…
I am so sorry for your loss. He had a loving home with Al and Jean for such a short while. Be free sweet boy.
Al & Jean,
Thank you for opening your hearts and home to Bear. Thank you for making his last few months better than his previous years. I know he blessed your lives as much as you blessed his.
Al and Jean, As your heart must be aching, think of the beautiful spirit that is Bear who is now celebrating a new life with all his friends on the other side of Rainbow Bridge.
I am deeply sorry for your loss. I never had the honor of meeting him but, through all the pictures, felt as if I knew him. He was a beautiful pet as you are beautiful people.
Oh, I’m so sorry to read this sad news. Thank you, Al and Jean, for giving Bear the good months of life he so deserved. He was such a noble fellow. And, as always, my gratitude extends to everybody in GRRSM for all this goodness.
Grief is the price we pay for love.
We’re making a donation to the rescue in memory of Bear and in honor of you both. You are terrific doggie parents. Bear was lucky to to have lived with you even for a short time. The rescue is fortunate that you both are a part.
We are also making a donation in Bear’s name. It’s the best way to honor his spirit.
Bear will be missed…and we are so grateful we live in a world where we know people like the Hueys.
Much love to them….
We want to thank everyone for your wounderful comments. We believe we were the lucky ones.
Jean and Al
