Charlie Update: Ready to go to the farm; swimming lesson; running around; three tired boys

Charlie continues to delight. He is very smart and obedient. He has learned all the routines.

The first night he learned how to line up for dinner and for bedtime biscuits. He sits to have his leash put on and before eating. He has learned to use the dog door. (He had a little trouble at first because he would try to follow Max out and then got smacked in the face by the door.)

He has learned that we have a yard full of squirrels because I feed them. Max will lie in the yard with them mere feet away and won’t bother them. Jax is probably afraid of them. Charlie chases them up the tree and waits for them to come back down. Swimming was a challenge. He had no fear of the water and went right in but had no clue how to swim. (I remember that Max had the same problem.) He slaps at the water and then bites at the splash, sometimes barking. He absolutely loves it and won’t come out.

I actually got a bit worried the first time and thought I may have to go in after him. The pond is very shallow and therefore quite safe. He puts his head underwater and digs in the mud. He is a true golden! When we meet someone else with a dog, he runs up to the owner first while Max checks out the dog. He gets along with everyone.

Thanks again for all you did for him and for finding him for me!

Turmeric Paste

Curious if anyone is already using turmeric paste in their dogs diet?  A lot of the dog cancer sites I follow are using this paste.  I recently had a doctor tell me to try turmeric with pepper for back pain.

Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant that can slow down aging, degeneration and even increase lifespan.

Turmeric aids in the following:

Destroys multi-drug resistant cancer;
Destroys cancer stem cells (arguably, the root of all cancer);
Protects against radiation-induced damage;
Reduces unhealthy levels of inflammation;
Protects against heavy metal toxicity;
Prevents and Reverses Alzheimer’s Disease associated pathologies;
Treatment of epilepsy;
Relieves allergies;
Prevents the formation of cataracts;
Treats depression;
Kills parasites;
Heals stomach ailments, aids in digestive disorders, and reduces gas and bloating;
Acts as a binding agent, great for treating diarrhea;
Fat metabolism and weight management;
High in fiber and rich in vitamins

  • 1/2 cup (125 mls/60gms) turmeric powder
  • 1 cup water (250 mls) PLUS 1 cup water in reserve, if needed
  • 1/3 cup (70 mls) one of the following oils: Raw (unrefined) Cold Pressed Coconut Oil, Linseed (flaxseed) oil or Virgin/Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 2-3 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper

Bring the turmeric and water to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer until you have a thick paste. This should take about 7-10 minutes and you may need to add additional water along the way.

Add the freshly ground pepper and oil at the end of cooking, when the turmeric and water mixture has cooled down to just warm. Stir well to incorporate the oil and allow to cool.

The Golden Paste will keep for 2 weeks, refrigerated

Freeze a portion if you think you have too much to use within two weeks.

Start by adding 1/4 tsp 2-3 times a day to your dogs diet.
