Oliver is Ready for His Furever Family

Oliver is an easy-going older boy who is a wonderful companion.

AgeOliver 1

Approximately 9 years old

 Weight

69 pounds

 Health

Very good except for arthritis in his knees. He is taking medication, which is helping a lot.

 House trained

Yes

 Exercise Requirements

At least two walks a day–Walking is his favorite thing! He has excellent leash manners once he gets over the excitement of getting out the door. He goes to the yard for potty breaks, but doesn’t spend much time out there.

Other Dogs

He does well with other dogs on or off leash.

 Cats

Unknown, but he’s very interested in them when he sees them on walks.

Kids

Unknown, but he is not at all aggressive. He might be a little too big for a young child.

Fears Oliver 3

None so far.

What his ideal family would be like

Oliver’s ideal family would be energetic enough to walk him at least twice a day, enjoy spending time with him,  and would continue to monitor and treat his arthritis.

Free Dog Tracking Class

Bob Deluca sent the following in an email to generate interest in dog tracking classes. I took it twice with Millie and now she can track a hot dog anywhere. I enjoyed it because unlike any other training the dog is in the lead. The class has to be early morning so you can take advantage of the dew. It shows the track you laid and helps holds the sent

Friends,

I am letting all know that I will be offering a free tracking class to be held on November 11th at the Oak Ridge Park in Hughesville, Md. Start time will be 8:30am. The free class will be a one day event which will last about 2 hours. This free class is to see if you would like to continue with an additional 4 day class to follow this one free class. The free class will cover dog tracking equipment, types of tracking leashes and how to use the leash correctly, getting the dogs nose on the ground, and how to get started laying a track for the dog to follow. The additional classes will cover how to lay a single track correctly, how to get your track straight, how to start doing turns, how to start aging your tracks, and how to keep track of where your tracks are at. The additional 4 classes will give you everything you will need to know to start training your dog to track.

The cost for the additional 4 classes will be $50.00 and will be limited to the first 7 with a paid registration. If you were one of the people that attended my tracking seminar you will save $10 so the cost to you will be $40.00. The first 7 to have a paid registration will be in the class. If you would like to pre-register prior to November 11 and be guaranteed a slot you can mail me a check for the full class amount to: Robert DeLuca, 13982 Wetherburn Street, Waldorf, Md. 20601. Doing this will assure you that you will have a slot in the next 4 classes. I will not cash your check till the 4 additional classes start.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend the free class to aussie20735@yahoo.com and I will send you additional information as to what you will need on November 11th.

Chew’s First Week

Chew is the 12 year old boy we took in last week whose owner’s could not afford his vet care. He’s been to the vet and has lots of medications to get his allergies and ear infections under control. Thank you so much to his foster mom Karin for taking such good care of him and his foster sister, Sophie, for entertaining him (She’s adopted from the rescue.)

Here he is after week one:

Welcome Sunny

blog Sunny

Joe and I made a trip to Northern VA to pick up 6 year old Sunny whose family could not afford to care for her. She’s a gentle soul, who is very thin and had lots of fleas which likely caused her hair loss.

Adam and Mariel are fostering her. Their resident pup, Cara and foster pup, Ripley, seem fine that Sunny will be a temporary part of their family.

Adam and Mariel will help Sunny gain weight and get her checked out by the vet. I’m pretty sure the vet is going to say she needs to gain some weight before she is spay.

If you’d like to be part of our volunteer transport team that brings dogs into rescue or part of our foster team that provides a temporary home to goldens in need we’d love to have you as part of our volunteer family. Call and leave a message on the rescue’s hot line 855.477.3728 or contact@goldenretrieverrescueofsouthernmaryland.org.

We’ll be having a training session at the beginning of the year, but we can provide on the job training now!
