Bertie Crosses Rainbow Bridge

Pam Lowery has had a really sad afternoon. Not one, but two, of her pups crossed Rainbow Bridge this afternoon – her foster dog Cinder, and her foster, then furever girl, Bertie.

This was always my favorite photo of beautiful Bertie. She came to rescue about two years ago and Pam agreed to foster her. Pam is a very experienced foster family who has fostered a number of pups and adopted them out to great families. Bertie was a special girl. Pam and her family felt an instant connection as if Bertie had always been part of their family. However, we learned while Pam was fostering that Bertie had some medical issues that required a rather expensive medication for the rest of Bertie’s life. Pam, a single mom, updated her budget so she could accommodate Bertie’s health needs and adopted her. Bertie’s health had been deteriorating over the last few weeks, but Pam was hopeful medications could be adjusted so they would have more time.

Please send Pam virtual hugs. It’s been a hard day for her. Golden Retriever Rescue of Southern Maryland is so lucky to have Pam and her family as a home for goldens.SONY DSC

Oh, Pam, so sorry for your heartbreak. I had to assist two of my senior pets within two days of one another last year at this time. It was crushing. You gave so much love to Bertie and Cinder. It is those that needed us most that are the hardest to let go. Hugs. So sorry for your losses. You are an angel on earth.

I’m so very sorry for your loss, Pam. Not sure how you get through losing two in one day. I hope you and your family find some comfort in knowing that you did right by Cinder and Bertie. They were lucky to have you as their foster/adoptive family for the last years of their lives.
