Bella Crosses Rainbow Bridge

From Tony who adopted Bella in 2008. She’s the fun loving girl on the left in this photo.

“I just wanted to let you know that we had to “say goodbye” to Bella yesterday. The cancer that Dr. Brown removed in October came back and spread to her lungs. She also had an enlarged esophagus and could not swallow properly. Her back legs began to fail on Wednesday and by Saturday she could no longer stand on her own.

I took her into VCA SM on Friday morning and Dr. Meadows showed concern that she suspected the cancer started to come back. She gave me some meds to keep her comfortable and see if she showed signs of improvement. I attended to all her needs 24/7 from Thursday morning to Sunday morning when she “let me know” that it was time for her to go. As you can guess I am crying as I write this to you.

Mary came down on Sunday and we took her in to see Dr. Fitzsimmons on Sunday afternoon. She suggested that we take her to APVES in Huntingtown to get her diagnosed. Dr. Coleman did a work up on her and told us that she had multiple deteriorating conditions. We felt that her quality of life had deteriorated to a level that would not dignify her.

After spending time with her, Mary, Caesar and I let her cross over the Rainbow Bridge on Sunday afternoon. She slipped away quietly and we were all there with her.

Writing this is my form of grieving for a most beloved girl. I wanted to thank you for bringing her into our lives, she was well loved and taken care of and returned the same to us.
She has left a special place in our hearts and minds and we will miss her dearly.”

Tony, Mary and Mr. Caesar

Saying I am sorry for your loss seems so trite – but I am. I am crying as I write this because we may have to make a similar decision in the near future. They get into our hearts so deeply…I am glad you have Caesar to help you through this..

Tony and Mary,
We are do sorry for your loss. We just went thru it with Tweed. We will always remembered your pups. Miss Bella was ond of our first fosters, and Caesar is our Foster’s twin brother. We always enjoyed see Bella at the dog park, and you calling her the mouth of the south.
