Well, Spunky made the decision himself last night. He crossed the rainbow bridge peacefully, at home, at about 11:30. We sure will miss the ‘big bear’. He had a way of using those sad old eyes to work his way into your heart.

I just got back from taking him to the vet. Even though we never officially adopted Spunky, we loved him as much as any of our own. I asked them to cremate him and return his ashes to me. – Betty

Hugs to Betty and Lloyd Davis and much appreciation to them for loving Spunky and caring for Spunky. When a large neighboring golden rescue couldn’t find anyone who would take in this senior boy, the Davis’ not only took him in they ask that he be a long term foster so he didn’t have any more turmoil in his life. He was well loved and well cared for even while his foster mom, Betty, is battling cancer. They had time to care for Spunky too. The rescue is so fortunate to have people like Betty and Lloyd!

Mr. Spunky was one of my favorite ‘Oldie Goldies’. He had such a regal air about him, like a royal king. When he came to the dog park, he would just lay in the grass, taking everything in, as if to say ‘All is right with the world. Spunky would always enjoy the scratch on the head, and just put a smile on your face. He will be missed. Love to Betty, Lloyd, and their family who took such loving care of Spunky. I’m sure the last years of his life were the best he every had.

Betty, Lloyd, and family – I’m so sorry to hear of Spunky’s passing. Take comfort in knowing that you gave him a loving home for the remainder of his years. And thank you for taking such great care of him.

Betty and Lloyd, such sad news. I know how much comfort he has provided your family over the past year or so. You found each other for a reason.

It takes very special people to take in the oldest goldens and love them for the short time they are with you. I know Spunky crossed the bridge knowing he was loved and wanted. It’s so hard to lose them no matter how long they were with you. Thanks Betty and Lloyd for taking him in and giving him a wonderful home.
